Global Talent Interview: Dr. Shantanu Chakraborty

Today, we are interviewing Shantanu Chakraborty. He received the Global Talent independent visa in March 2020. He is a Senior Data Scientist at AVEVA (Schneider Electric Software). Previously, he was a Research Fellow at the Energy Transition Hub, the University of Melbourne. He has a PhD from the University of the Ryukyus, Japan.

I am a Senior Data Scientist at Schneider Electric. Previously, I was a Senior Research Fellow at the Energy Transition Hub, the University of Melbourne.

Prior to that, I held a position of Industrial Data Scientist lead at Siemens Netherlands, particularly at the Engineering and Commissioning Department of Process Industries and Drives Division. I worked as a Researcher at the Intelligent and Autonomous Systems group in Centrum Wiskunde and Informatica (CWI), the national research institute for mathematics and computer science in the Netherlands.

Before CWI, I worked as an Assistant Manager at IoT Devices Research Laboratories in NEC, Japan from September 2013 to January 2017, and took a visiting researcher position at The University of Tokyo, Japan (till February 2016) for a collaborative project. Past endeavors include Research Assistant Professorship at Nagoya Institute of Technology and Research and Teaching Assistant at University of the Ryukyus, Japan.

I have over 60 papers published (including 20+ in journals), and 13 granted patents
I find out about the Global Talent Visa in December 2020. After reading about the visa; I submitted the Expression of Interest on the 15th of January 2020. I received the UID with an invitation to apply on the 31st of January.

After spending a month gathering all the documents, I submitted my visa application on the 26th of February 2020 and received my grant on the 18th of March.
Overall, the experience was positive, smooth and straight-forward. All the details are available on the department’s website and following the guidelines definitely helpful in securing a positive outcome for deserving applicants.
